Overview

VPE (Virtual Producer Engine) is a desktop application that runs locally on your machine. We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about what data we collect and why. This policy covers the VPE desktop app, the getvpe.com website, and our cloud services.

What We Collect

Desktop App

  • Machine identifier — a locally generated ID used for license validation. Not tied to your real identity.
  • Usage telemetry — anonymous, aggregate statistics: features used, session duration, event counts, error rates. No stream content, chat messages, or viewer data is collected.
  • Crash reports — stack traces and system info when the app crashes, to help us fix bugs.
  • License status — your plan tier and activation state, to enforce feature limits.

Website (getvpe.com)

  • Email address — if you join our waitlist or create an account.
  • Analytics & advertising cookies — via Google Tag Manager (including Google Analytics and Google Ads conversion tracking), to understand how visitors use the site and to measure and improve our advertising. You can opt out via your browser settings.
  • OAuth tokens — if you connect streaming platforms (Twitch, YouTube, etc.). Tokens are encrypted at rest and used only to authenticate with those platforms on your behalf.

Cloud Services

  • Feature access and settings — the cloud sends your plan features and preferences to the app. No personal data flows in this direction.
  • Heartbeat data — periodic pings that confirm your engine is running. Contains only machine ID, version, and uptime.

What We Do NOT Collect

  • Your stream video or audio content
  • Chat messages or viewer lists
  • Donation amounts or donor identities
  • OBS scene content or recordings
  • Any content that VPE processes during your stream

VPE processes everything locally on your machine. Stream events (donations, raids, chat activity) are analyzed in real time by the engine and never leave your computer.

How We Use Your Data

  • Product improvement — anonymous telemetry helps us understand which features are used, what breaks, and where to invest development time.
  • License enforcement — machine ID and plan tier are used to validate your subscription and gate features accordingly.
  • Communication & marketing — your email is used for product updates, early access invitations, and support. We may also use it — including in hashed form via tools like Google Ads Customer Match — to measure our advertising and show you relevant ads. We never sell your email address.

Data Sharing for Product Improvement

We may use aggregated, anonymized usage data to improve VPE. This includes feature usage patterns, error rates, and performance metrics. This data is never sold to third parties and cannot be used to identify individual users.

In some cases, we may share anonymized, aggregate statistics with partners (e.g., “X% of users use the auto-clip feature”) to improve integrations. No individual user data is ever shared.

Data Storage and Security

  • All cloud communication uses TLS encryption with certificate pinning.
  • OAuth tokens are encrypted at rest using your OS keychain (macOS Keychain / Windows Credential Manager).
  • All cloud messages are cryptographically signed — messages cannot be tampered with in transit.
  • No sensitive data (tokens, keys, credentials) is ever written to disk in plaintext.

Google & YouTube API Services

When you connect a YouTube channel, VPE accesses YouTube data through the YouTube API Services using the permissions you grant via Google OAuth. VPE’s use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Acting only on your own channel and at your direction, VPE uses the YouTube API to:

  • read your live chat in real time to drive on-stream overlays, alerts, moments, and moderation;
  • send chat messages from the chat assistants you configure;
  • create and manage your live broadcast and stream so you can go live from the app;
  • read your channel statistics (such as subscriber and view counts) for your analytics;
  • and, when you choose, publish clips to your channel.

This YouTube data is processed in real time to provide these features and is not sold, transferred, or used for advertising. We do not store your live chat content on our servers; OAuth tokens are encrypted at rest (see Data Storage and Security above). You can revoke VPE’s access at any time by disconnecting the platform in the app or via your Google Account permissions — revoking access deletes the stored tokens. Your use of YouTube features is also subject to the YouTube Terms of Service and the Google Privacy Policy.

Your Rights

You can:

  • Request your data — ask us what data we hold about you.
  • Delete your data — request deletion of your account and associated data.
  • Opt out of telemetry — disable usage telemetry in the desktop app settings.
  • Disconnect platforms — revoke OAuth access to any connected streaming platform at any time.

To exercise any of these rights, email us at privacy@getvpe.com.

Children

VPE is not intended for use by children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Significant changes will be communicated via the app or email. The “last updated” date at the top reflects the most recent revision.
