How Auto Clips Work

VPE keeps a rolling video buffer of your stream (configurable from 30 seconds to 5 minutes). When a hype moment is detected — a big donation, chat explosion, raid, or manual trigger — VPE extracts that segment as a clip.

Clip extraction happens locally on your machine. No cloud processing, no upload delays. The clip is ready within seconds of the moment happening.

Each clip includes metadata: what triggered it, the timestamp, chat activity level, and the moment type. This helps you find and organize clips later.

02

What Triggers a Clip

By default, VPE clips on high-confidence moments: large donations (above your configured threshold), subscriber bombs, raids over 10 viewers, and chat spike anomalies.

You can configure additional triggers in the clip settings. Any event or moment that VPE detects can be used as a clip trigger — donations, follows, subscriptions, raids, and chat anomalies across all connected platforms.

Manual clips are also supported. Press a hotkey or use the VPE dashboard to mark 'clip that' — VPE grabs the last N seconds from the buffer immediately.

Tip

Set your clip buffer to at least 60 seconds. Moments often build up before they peak, and you want the full context in your clip.

03

Vertical Export for Social Media

VPE can export clips in 9:16 vertical format automatically — ready for TikTok, YouTube Shorts, and Instagram Reels without any editing.

The vertical crop uses smart framing: it centers on the most active region of your stream (usually your webcam or the game action area). You can override the crop area in settings.

Both horizontal (16:9) and vertical (9:16) exports are available. VPE generates both simultaneously if configured, giving you options for different platforms.

04

Auto-Publishing to Social Platforms

Connect your TikTok, YouTube, Instagram, or Twitter accounts in the Social Publishing settings. Once connected, VPE can automatically publish clips to these platforms.

Auto-publish has safety controls: rate limits (max posts per hour/day), minimum clip quality thresholds, and a review queue where you can approve or reject before publishing.

You can also schedule clips for later. VPE queues them and publishes at optimal times based on your audience timezone (configurable in settings).

Clip Quality & Configuration

Clip quality matches your stream output. If you stream at 1080p60, your clips are 1080p60. VPE doesn't re-encode unless needed for format conversion.

Configure minimum clip length (default: 15 seconds) and maximum clip length (default: 60 seconds). VPE trims automatically to fit these bounds.

For moments that build up over time (like a gradual chat spike), VPE uses dynamic clip boundaries — it captures from the start of the buildup through the peak, rather than a fixed window.

Tip

Set your maximum clip length to 60 seconds for TikTok and Shorts. These platforms favor content under a minute.

Managing Your Clip Library

All clips are stored locally in your VPE data directory. The Clips tab shows your full library with thumbnails, timestamps, trigger types, and publish status.

From the library you can: rename clips, re-export in different formats, manually publish to platforms, delete, or export to a specific folder for external editing.

Clips are organized by stream session. After each stream, you get a summary showing how many clips were captured and which moments triggered them.
